Somehow Lily Allen manages to pull off the unlikely in her sophomoric release, Its Not Me, Its You. Through all of her notorious ups and mostly downs of the past year, including a string of unabashed MySpace rants, drunken feuds with Amy Winehouse, a stream of reported drug abuse, a miscarriage, a breakup and altogether owning the from page of every major UK tabloid, Allen managed to keep it together enough to write and record a new album. And with all that said...
While Allen's electro-pop melodies and multi-tracking self-hramonies teeter toward the catchy at times, her attempts to address the near-and-dear issues of institutionalized drug abuse in "Everyone's at It" and a boyfriend's shortcomings in banjo-pickin' cut, "It's Not Fair", comes with comedic air that somehow feels dishonest. Maybe we're more impressed with her ability to maintain in general than the album itself, but there's no doubt that for Lily - its a feat.
