One thing the music world has come to expect is that you can never predict Ryan Adams' next move. That is why it was both unexpected and not a shocker that he announced the upcoming release of his latest solo album Ashes & Fire.
Since announcing his intent to quit making music after marrying actress/singer to Mandy Moore Adams has done such things as make a heavy metal album, go on a European tour and cover Vampire Weekend tracks on Facebook. Ashes & Fire will be his first proper album since III/IV with his Grateful Dead inspired band The Cardinals, and even that was recorded during the sessions for Cardinology in 2008.
Ashes & Fire is due to be released on October 11th in the US and was produced by The Beatles/Bob Dylan collaborator Glyn Johns who's son Ethan produced three previous Adams albums. Norah Jones plays piano and contributes backing vocals on a few songs, and the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench also guests on Ashes & Fire. You can find the tracklist below.
