The Flaming Lips and Weezer are two bands known sick shows and weirdness on stage. Later this month fans in the Greater New York area will get to experience a different kind of weirdness by both bands on the same night.
On July 28 at Holmdel, New Jersey's PNC Bank Arts Center, and then again the next night at Wantagh, New York's Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, the two bands will literally share the stage. That is, both bands will set up their equipment onstage next to each other and then trade off playing throughout the show. One band will play a few songs, and then the other will take over. Yeasayer will be the opening act on both dates.
The possibilities for this are pretty intriguing! In a press release, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer said, "I asked Wayne if he has an extra bubble I could ride in." We can't wait to see what happens and if this breeds future collaborations of this type.
